Pete's written a couple of write ups on St George's Day and May Day (with an especially interesting snippet at the bottom of the St George's Day one).
Welcome to Crendon Morris Men's Website

Wot no beer? That's a first! Obviously posed for during closing time ... CRENDON MORRIS MEN (King's Arms, Oxford. May Day 2003)

Practitioners and Custodians of Fine English Drinking habits too — based in the Coronation Village of LONG CRENDON in West Buckinghamshire.

The "side" (collective name for a group of dancers) was formed in June 1967, after a group of pub regulars at the Eight Bells (High Street, Long Crendon) had been witnessing a performance by the fledgling Towersey Morris Men, in front of the pub.

The landlord then, Charles Cope, challenged his young regulars to "do something useful" and form their own side — not to be outdone (and fuelled with some alcoholic courage) they accepted and vowed to learn the noble art, initially under the guidance and tuition of Denis Manners (Towersey Folk Club stalwart and mentor).

Another Eight Bells regular and local Irish-born folk-singer/musician, Kevin McHale, was co-opted into the side at the outset and remained a pivotal figure until his death in 2003. Kevin was the only musician for the first 20 years or so and was distinctive if for no other reason than he often played at a furious pace!
The rest (as they say) is history hysterical ... :o))

Q: Why must I register?
A: You don't have to! Also, it provides the administrators with an email address for communicating with you.

Q: Why must I register again for specific areas, e.g. WebCalendar, Forums, Photo Gallery?
A: Because those areas require different permissions than the standard login. For example, WebCalendar, though it has a "Public Access" view, is also accessible by CMM members who may login and use it for personal or private appointments and reminders which remain unseen in "Public Access" mode. CMM Forums also has its own independent security, requiring registration to be able to post messages. Furthermore, other areas are set up specifically for CMM members and remain unseen even for registered Forum members. The Photo Gallery has similar protection ...
